As co-chairs of the Middle-States Self-Study Steering Committee, we welcome you to this website. This is where you will find an overview of the process, Self-Study personnel, documents generated by Committee and Task Force work, and minutes from Steering Committee meetings.
The College has been accredited by the Middle States Commission in Higher Education, a division of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, since 1921. We will undergo our formal review in spring, 2006; however, work has been progressing on the Self-Study since fall, 2003, when the Steering Committee and Task force members were appointed.
Muhlenberg College is perfectly poised for the opportunity to engage in its ten-year Middle States reaccredidation review. President Helm has set the tone for a culture of assessment and planning through the strategic planning process. Consistent with this tone and process, the College has chosen the Comprehensive model of self-study. This model complements the Strategic Planning process, although the structure, timetable and some personnel vary. Both enterprises are committed to consistent institution-wide assessment and open collaboration. Both enterprises are committed to seeing what the College does well (and why) and to determining what the College can do more effectively (and how).
As Co-Chairs of the Steering Committee, we hope that members of the Muhlenberg community will participate where appropriate in the review and use this website to become engaged in the Self-Study process as it unfolds over the next eighteen months.
